If you appreciate fine Porsches you MUST consider this event!
Two years ago I went to Megaphonics for the first time and was absolutely blown away by the sheer number and quality of Porsches both on show and driven in by visitors. Some were exceptionally rare, including a few that I had never seen before. It was a thoroughly splendid day. I had to miss it last year because I was recovering from a hip replacement operation two weeks prior and not allowed to drive, so was very much looking forward to going this year – I was not disappointed.
For 2026, Megaphonics was expanded to two days, making the event less crowded, and changes were made to the access and exit roads to reduce queuing, which was a necessary improvement given the numbers attending and proved effective on the day attended in my 911T, as I drove in without any delays at all.
Clearly it’s a show aimed pretty much exclusively at fans of Porsche – of which I am obviously one – but even if you’re not, it’s still an incredibly impressive display of road and track cars from all eras of the marque’s storied history, from the 356, through numerous incarnations of the venerable 911 and more.
Among the curated displays, some of the highlights for me were the track heroes like the frankly awesome Can-Am Porsche 917/10 and the 1988 962 as well as the blue 1974 3.0 RS, the yellow 1991 964 Carrera RS and the orange 1971 914-6 GT – all fabulous.
In a first for Megaphonics, Car and Classic, one of the biggest if not THE biggest classic car sales websites displayed some 25 cars that were to be auctioned by them online over the week (final bids at the weekend), the highlights of which were a genuine ex-Le Mans1988 Kremer 962, a 1962 Karmann T6 Notchback 356 as well as an unusual 1955 Pre-A Speedster Emory Outlaw 356 built for competition. Among the more “regular” Porsches in the auction was a superb 1972 911E in tangerine – one of my favourite colours on a 911 (after yellow, of course!). I’m not sure about the notchback 356 – the coupé is so achingly pretty while the notchback looks a little awkward by comparison – to me, at least
Hundreds of Porsches of all types and eras and colours were brought to the event by the thousands of visitors, including in my all-time favourite yellow, but there were many lovely ‘60s and ‘70s colours that are so much more interesting than the greys, whites and blacks that have dominated what seems like the entire 21st century so far.
Leading Porsche specialist Autofarm – where I take my car – are also located at Boxengasse and they opened their doors and put on a strong display of some of the cars they are currently working on or storing for clients – I liked the photo positive/negative vibe of the white and black Martini cars and the gorgeous yellow and aubergine 911’s parked together.
Megaphonics claims to be Europe’s biggest Porsche event – it’s easy to believe them. The sheer variety of examples of the marque, both curated by the organisers and brought to the event by visitors, is very impressive. Below is a selection for your enjoyment!
