@ce – I think the FIAT is a very under-rated small coupé, along with the Lancia Fulvia – both seem to get much less attention than the Alfa 105/115 series, but it means that they are much less expensive than the Alfa (in the UK, at least) and to my mind, very comparable. And yes, I’m sure your 124 looked great in orange!

@ce – I rented a Lancia Ypsilon a few years ago while on holiday in beautiful Tuscany and it was one of the worst cars I’ve ever driven – it was especially gutless going up the many hills there. The Mercedes-Benz Museum is one of the best car museums I have been to and is a must-visit if you are in Stuttgart. Ideally, you can do the MB Museum in the morning and the Porsche Museum in the afternoon (or vice-versa) – a perfect way to spend a day!

@ce – re the VW use of wind names, yes, I was aware – my point was more that in the case of the Golf (and Passat, Bora, since you mention them) the cars do not reflect the names in any way, whereas with Maserati, they do. At least, that’s how I see it.

In the UK, one of the most persuasive reasons to buy a car – apparently – was that it had only “one lady owner”, but we’re never told what kind of lady…

While it used to be that numbers made sense, in recent years they seem to be increasingly meaningless. Names, though…names can be evocative as well as image-building. I mean, is there a better name for a car than Interceptor? Or Stag? I’ve always liked Maserati’s use of wind names which give an impression of speed by themselves, or Lamborghini’s…[Læs mere]

I’ve never owned an X19, but I have driven one, and it was a lot of fun. However, the big bumpers kill the styling for me, and there is another consideration – the Audi is exceptionally practical for a stylish – and it is stylish – coupe. The Sinsheim museum is a superb museum and absolutely worth an article to itself, which I look forward to reading! I have been twice, once back in 1987 or 88 (I can’t remember exactly) and more recently in 2016 – the way the Blue Flame is displayed has been changed (for the better, looking at the photo above), but it is an awesome sight…[Læs mere]

A beautiful and elegant car – except for the very unsubtle front treatment. I hope the new owner uses it and shows it in public at least occasionally.

@ce yes, I would agree that LEGO is generally a positive word, just not in car design…7 of the breakdowns were electrical failures, the last one – and the straw that broke my back – was the power steering pump failed, fortunately while I was leaving the office car park and not while on my Amsterdam ring road commute…

I ran a 156 2.5V6 for two years from new between 1998 and 2000 – it looked fabulous in Azzuro Nuvola and drove beautifully, except it broke down 8 (yes, eight) times in two years, causing me to hand the keys back and buy a BMW 520i Touring which performed faultlessly. @mslund yes, I realised afterwards it was a Danish-specific award, but couldn’t see the name of it. Maybe I didn’t express myself very well, but it was because the Danish award focused on a particular type of cars that I thought the contrast with the European award was interesting.
