It took me almost a year to sell my 280CE, for quite a bit less than I originally requested, which I thought was a reasonable mid-point between the very best and very average. I’m not sure I like it, I like the BMW “Art Cars” more, particularly the Lichtenstein one.

@Niels – the drawback is you have to be a Fellow of the GRRC (or know someone who is) to buy a ticket for the Members’ Meeting. Last year that cost £89, plus £94 for the ticket. If you live nearby and can visit the circuit for more events, it’s not so bad but if you use it primarily to be able to buy a MM ticket…It is less crowded, a good thing, but it’s not as big and the cars are not as varied despite being drawn from a much wider age range. For me at least, having been 6 times in a row, it has lost some of it’s appeal and I won’t renew my membership when it comes up, though if offered a ticket as a guest… But if you haven’t been before, definitely worth going to.
Interestingly, I was at the Donington Historic Festival last weekend – £22.50 for a weekend display pass (through the Porsche Club, less than 1/10th the cost of a weekend pass for Goodwood – even a full price weekend ticket bought at the gate was only £60) a £10 programme (£22 at Goodwood) and many similar cars, perhaps just the higher end missing but still plenty of fabulous racing classics. While lacking the glamour of Goodwood, it’s certainly much better value. Goodwood has become a bit of a cash machine.

Time flyes, Tony! I can’t quite recall what I paid for my orange 1974 Fiat 124 Sport, but it sure wasn’t 10,500 Pounds. Not even half, I think? Great car that I loved driving – and orange with black leather was not too shabby to look at either.
You are also quite right in the statement “The Italians used to make such gorgeous cars”. How sad that it is now “used to”…and that the best excuse is that “and so did many others”!

Indeed I would say the Fiat 124 coupé, Alfa 105 series and the Fulvia coupé are all comparable. And in that company the Fiat REALLY seem a bargain. Besides that the Fulvia also on the mainland sits well below the Alfa pricewise. I DO in fact find the Alfa the best of the bunch – but to most people price matters too, right? I would like any of the trio in my garage – again!

The Loh Collection I can only recommend with the warmest of recommendations still: What an absolutely amazing place. Autoworld Bruxelles is fine to, but much more traditional in the approach – although I loved the Belgian angle of Michel Vaillant. Classic Remise Düsseldorf has been my home from away for a year and I love the place and how it has been restored and rethought.
And not least: The last museum I had never heard of and it is know on my list!
